ST. PAUL - The St. Paul (Saddle Lake and surrounding St. Paul County) region on the provincial map is now showing over 100 active cases of COVID-19, as of Friday afternoon.

The region has been changed to a red colour, similar to areas near Edmonton, now that the region has gone over the 100-mark. The is a total of 116 active cases of the respiratory virus in the region, according to the provincial map, when using the 'local geographic area' option.

A number of schools in the St. Paul region have confirmed active cases of COVID-19 over the past week, and the St. Paul Co-op has also been affected by cases of the virus, with three departments having to temporarily close to allow for deep cleanings.

Over the last 24 hours, 1,828 new cases were identified across the province. There are 533 people in hospital due to COVID-19, including 99 in intensive care.

A number of restrictions remain in place to slow the spread of the virus. Not following mandatory restrictions could result in fines of $1,000 per ticketed offence and up to $100,000 through the courts, according to the Government of Alberta.

"Legally, all Albertans must physically distance and isolate when sick or with symptoms," according to the Friday update from the province.
