St. Paul welcomes first baby born in 2024

On Jan. 9, Tianna Cardinal and Sonny Benson welcomed their newborn girl, Ayla Benson. She was born shortly before 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul-St. Therese Healthcare Centre.

ST. PAUL – The 2024 New Year’s baby has been born at the St. Paul-St. Therese Healthcare Centre.

On Jan. 9, Tianna Cardinal and Sonny Benson welcomed their newborn girl, Ayla Benson, weighing 10 pounds. She arrived shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Ayla is the couple’s third child and third daughter, and Cardinal admits she did not expect to have the first baby born at the St. Paul hospital in 2024.

She expressed her excitement for her newborn daughter when asked how she went about choosing Ayla’s name. It was simple. Their two older daughters’ names also begin with the letter “A”, so the couple decided to continue with the theme.

Cardinal says there were some challenges with her pregnancy, and “I had complications after birth, but we’re doing okay now.”

She is now resting and spending “time with all my babies.”

Cardinal says her other daughters have been adjusting well to their new baby sister.

“They’re always excited for her.”
