Bonyville Jr. A Pontiacs are on a roll having won 10 out of their last 11 games. Last week was also a very special time for players who have travelled far distances to play with the Jr. A team.

The decision on whether or not the MD of Bonnyville will keep or rescind the Financial Assistance for Victims of Fire Policy, has once again been left unresolved. Council has decided to bring the matter to a committee of the whole meeting for possible amendments to the policy.

Premier Academy’s team Xplosion has won their second bid to compete abroad in two years. Following a stellar performance in Edmonton on Jan. 20, the team will have its choice of four international cheer competitions to compete in next year.

As of May 1, MD of Bonnyville residents can expect to receive a bill from the municipality if the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority is called to suppress a fire on their property. These changes are the result of amendments to the municipality's Fire Suppression and Cost Recovery Policy council approved on Jan. 24.

Kehewin Native Dance Theatre received $100,000 from the Bell Let’s Talk Diversity Fund for its collaborative Naskwahamâtowin Project meant to reduce the stigma of mental illness and increase access to culturally informed mental health as Indigenous youth from the region heal together through the production of music.

Rumble in the Jungle winners kept the gold hardware in the Lakeland with the U11 St. Paul team taking first place and the Lakeland Jaguars U13 team taking gold in the hockey tournament held at the C2 last weekend.

The Lakeland Jaguars are set to host the U18 Female B Hockey Alberta Provincial Championship in Cold Lake for a second year in a row. Last year, the Jags swept the competition and took gold in the 2022 provincial tournament.

In the last quarter of 2022, the Town of Bonnyville had six new businesses either apply for or obtain business licenses.

Town of Bonnyville council loses appetite for installing a Level 2 charging station within the town following an unsuccessful application of an Electric Vehicle Charging Program rebate. Council did not rule out the possibility of pursuing a Level 3 charging station down the road.

Nearly 30 awards were handed out to Bonnyville and area fishers, hunters, archers and outdoor enthusiasts who attended Beaver River Fish and Game Association’s 34th annual awards banquet on the evening of Feb. 4.
