After more than a half century of farming, Fort Kent resident Benard Chartrand is asking area school divisions to build greenhouses for every school and to provide all students with tree saplings to plant, each year.

vents are already underway in the Lakeland to commemorate Orange Shirt Day and Canada’s second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Both days of reflection take place on Sept. 30. 

A new theatre in the Lakeland is slated for construction, following an official groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 22 at Bonnyville Centralized High School (BCHS).

When it comes to having a say in provincial education programs and initiatives, a Grade 10 student from Bonnyville will share her ideas and perspectives as a rural student in northeast Alberta.

A privacy fence doubling as a sound barrier is expected to be complete before the end of the year. The fence will be installed along a portion of Highway 41 at an estimated cost of about $225,600.

The corn maze was the tallest ever, the lineups were long for everything from the bouncy train and ball toss to the bowling and balloon darts and the silent auction boasted a whopping 63 items at this year's Franchere Fall Fair.

The Bonnyville Community Garden operated by LICA has donated more than 220 lbs of fresh produce to the Bonnyville food bank as of Sept. 8. In-kind support from volunteers and local businesses have helped make the donations possible.

At a regular council meeting, area MLA Scott Cyr shared in an open discussion with council members from the Town of Bonnyville. Subjects shifted between wanting new traffic lights on the west side of town, to renewed support for high school RAP programs and representation on future AHS boards.

Once again, the Town of Bonnyville’s council has passed an annual bylaw to allow for the division of residential assessment classes, creating the Single Family Residential and Multi-Family Residential assessment sub-classes for taxation purposes.
