ELK POINT - Vehicles large, small, old and newer took home prizes from the Elk Point Auto Club’s 35th Annual Show and Shine, with 57 registered entries and a few late arrivals lining most of two blocks of main street on Saturday.

Throughout the afternoon, crowds of visitors toured the lineup and voted for their favourites, as well as having the opportunity to enter draws for a number of donated prizes ranging from t-shirts to toy tractors.

Two genuine collectors’ items led the way in a pair of Antique categories. Eldon Weinmeier’s glossy 1936 Chevy coupe not only won the Elk Point Auto Club plaque for Pre 1949 Antiques, it also won the Mystery Man’s Oldest Vehicle award, while the Richard Zarowny Memorial 1949 -1992 Antique award went to Mark Friesen’s 1971 Austin Mini.

On a perfect day for riding around with the top down, Dillon Page’s unique Jon Page Firebug took top votes for the Elk Point Realty Convertible trophy.

Wes Jendruk of Athabasca was a double winner with his Mercury Cougar, taking home the Show trophy from Lakeland Realty and the Farthest Traveled award from the Specialty Vehicle Association of Alberta.

This year’s Modified award from Signatures Collision and Frame went to Henri Amyotte for his 1956 International Harvester pickup, the Muscle Car award from Moonshine Hotrod to Albert Pankratow and the Ed Nelson Memorial Under Restoration award to T. J. Singer and his 1952 International Harvester pickup, while Ryan Samuel’s 1950 Ford won the Truck award from Bumper to Bumper.

With this show including more than just cars and trucks, Dean Cameron won the Motorcycle/Snowmobile award from Cal’s Hardware with his 2002 Victory cycle, and Roger Smith took home the Caouette and Sons Tractor award with a vintage Massey Harris.

With all the prizes awarded, a number of the entries lined up behind EPAC president Ed Smith’s 1933 Ford Coupe for a tour around town on a route that included the local seniors’ residences, where shut-ins unable to attend the show would still have the opportunity to enjoy the nostalgic lineup.
