Despite the rain, 2,000 rubber ducks were released into the Beaver River last Sunday for the 32nd annual Ardmore Duck Race.

The founder of Hamel’s Meat Market, Josephat Hamel, was the legacy award recipient for Lakeland Credit Union’s Wall of Distinction. Members of the Hamel family were on hand at the unveiling ceremony to accept the award on behalf of their late father and pépère.

On Friday, the Lac La Biche campus of Portage College was alive with pomp and ceremony as over 700 graduates representing 37 programs celebrated their hard-earned achievements by participating in convocation exercises.

On June 3, the Mallaig School Parent Fundraising Committee hosted Mallaig Madness, a fundraiser event that involved various members of the school community, including students, parents, and teachers from the kindergarten to Grade 12 school.  

With a new elementary school nearing completion, Saddle Lake Education Authority has decided it will no longer be busing kindergarten to Grade 3 students to schools outside the Saddle Lake community, and instead encouraging "Nation members to attend our Nation's schools."

This afternoon, June 9, 4 Wing will be conducting an Emergency Response exercise within the limits of the base. Both public and residential areas will be included in the mock drill and lock-down.

The tennis courts at the St. Paul Golf Course glistened under the bright sun on June 4, as people of all ages were engaged in different tennis activities.

Earlier this year, the provincial government provided a total of $5 million in grants to 14 Indigenous community-owned businesses through the Aboriginal Business Investment Fund (ABIF). Some of those funds will be coming to the area.
