Early morning blaze is part of recent "hectic" time for local emergency services

In celebration of Catholic Education Week running from May 23-27, Lakeland Catholic students will be encouraged to wear blue, while Lakeland Catholic staff members will don t-shirts designed by students Jeanna Ignacio and Paige Parker.

A shortage of doctors across Lac La Biche County and many areas of the Lakeland region has been a challenge that has affected services for community members seeking medical attention. It has also forced local officials to “aggressively recruit” qualified candidates to fill the void.

Last week the local Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) Region 1 office participated in a national campaign that brings awareness to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). The Moose Hide Campaign primarily focuses on involving males in the MMIW crisis that has taken thousands of indigenous women's lives’. Annually, supporters wear a square pin made of moose hides while taking part in traditional ceremonies, fasts and teachings.

Lac La Biche is the more recent community to experience a temporary reduction in beds at its local hospital due to staff shortages. Ten beds have been closed at the St. Paul hospital for nearly a year now.
