Students from across the St. Paul Athletics Association (SPAA) region gathered in school gymnasiums on April 24 to take part in this year's junior high SPAA badminton championship tournament.

Behind every goal celebrated and every hard-fought battle on the rink is a team effort both in and outside the ice. As players chase their passion, behind them are volunteers working in the background to help them shine.

The Northeast Alberta Schools Athletic Association (NEASAA) Zone championships took place on April 23, while the Lakeland Schools Athletic Association (LSAA) were held on April 24 in Lac La Biche.

It was the battle of Alberta on Sunday at the Clancy Richard Arena as the Central Canada Cup wrapped up, and the hometown St. Paul Canadiens took on the Wetaskiwin Icemen to win their second consecutive Central Canada Cup trophy.

The St. Paul Canadiens will be hitting the ice at 3 p.m. on Sunday to take on the Wetaskiwin Icemen in the gold medal game of the Central Canada Cup, hosted in St. Paul at the Clancy Richard Arena.

The St. Paul Canadiens will hit the ice at 7 p.m. in a semi-final game against the Saskatoon Royals at the Clancy Richard Arena.

This year, due to low registration numbers, Lac La Biche minor ball will not have 15U A and 18U A baseball teams.

The event, which is hosted by the Lac La Biche Boxing Club, features boxers from across Alberta and Saskatchewan, and some from the Lac La Biche area also.

All six Elk Point Avalanche hockey teams were in the spotlight on April 15 as players, coaching staff and families packed the Elk Point Allied Arts for the awards banquet.

The event took place at the Bold Centre from April 3-6.
