Are you really surprised? I’m not. This country has proven time and time again that hockey reigns supreme as the dominant sport in the country.

To the editor, In rural communities throughout our province, Alberta’s new planning and land-use legislation has been the subject of much discussion. This is certainly true of the communities I represent.

The Nouvelle is pleased to honour local volunteers in this week's special section in light of National Volunteer Week. There are so many generous people in our community who all deserve recognition.

It was like a scene from a movie. The sun was setting in the west, darkness gathering as the temperature plummeted – the highway stretched out, vacant and unfeeling to the north and the south.

I vote ‘none of the above'. Oh wait, I can't. Federally, a refused ballot — the personal choice not to vote for any candidate, but to still be counted as a voter — is actually counted as a spoiled ballot, which can occur on purpose or by accident.

Dear Editor, I am writing to express a concern about the proposed 500kv DC transmission lines proposed for the Eastern and Western portions of Alberta.

Two major industry groups continue to oppose four critical transmission projects (CRT). The two industry associations represent tens of thousands of workers and several key sectors of the province’s economy.

Happy April, everyone! But does it really feel like April with the heaps of snow still lingering and the weather forecast predicting lows of below zero? This past weekend sure was promising, weather-wise.

Though we do not typically cover NHL hockey here at the Nouvelle, one team has gone above and beyond the norm this regular season and deserves an honourable mention before playoffs begin later this month.

I've never been loyal to a political party. I've always thought that being locked in to voting one way would limit my ability to vote for whichever party actually addresses my needs during an election campaign.
