Wrong name printed in Court Report

This July local Venturer Scouts will be venturing to Northern France and Belgium—a trip that comes as a result of three years of fundraising, planning and hard work—and on the way they intend to do some good.

Citing health concerns and the wish to spend more time with family, Lac La Biche County Mayor Peter Kirylchuk resigned on June 19 after nearly eight years in office-forcing a by-election within the next 90 days.

There was much a-“Do” about nothing (in the way of hair)—as four locals dared to bare their scalps last week, donating their silky locks to charity and raising money for cancer research.

With National Abori­ginal Day coming up on Friday, it is a good time to look around Lac La Biche and appreciate all the local elders who make a difference in the community every day. One such venerated elder is Emma Rayko.

For the second year in a row, a disappointing move by the federal government forced the Lac La Biche Canadian Native Friendship Centre to lay off staff and shutter the popular New Horizons Youth Centre.

Depending on the results of a government review, municipal politicians could soon serve four year terms instead of the usual three. The extended time in office is just one of a host of changes that Muni­cipal Affairs is considering for the province.

Summer is officially just around the corner, and with it a busy summer festival season.
