A wake surfing event on July 19 at Beaver Lake Provincial Park featured competitors from across Alberta, including a few from Lac La Biche.

A drilling rig has been mobilized to address an abandoned well leaking sweet gas, predominantly methane, within a residential area of the Town of Bonnyville. The well, discovered last year, dates back to the 1950s.

Every Wednesday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., volunteers also go to the site for “Wednesday Work Bees,” lending a hand to get the site ready for the thousands of visitors that are expected. Those interested in volunteering can get in touch with the organization.

The Municipal District of Bonnyville has declared a state of municipal agricultural disaster, effective July 23, as a severe drought grips the region.

While all existing fire permits are suspended, no few fire permits will be issued, and all burning - including campfires - is prohibited, quad and UTV use is still permitted in Lac La Biche County.

The anniversary event is taking place on Sept. 5 and 6.
