Francophone students entertain families at Lac La Biche Christmas concert

The recently updated Red List of Threatened Species, released by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, now includes 157,190 species, up from 128,918 species recorded in the 2020 report.

The oil and gas industry in northeast Alberta has once again helped out Santa, not by putting out feed for his reindeer, but instead adding support to communities through donations large and small prior to the Christmas season.

On Dec. 16, the Phil-Can Families of St. Paul Association held a Christmas Party at the St. Paul Senior Citizen's Centre, celebrating the holiday and bringing together members of the Filipino community in the St. Paul region.

During this year’s holiday season, animals were given some extra snuggles as the Lakeland Humane Society reignited the heartwarming initiative 'Home for the Howlidays.' 

Although it started out, as usual, with a song by Debbie Woods’ Kindergarten class, the 2023 version of Elk Point Elementary School’s Christmas Concert was not like the others in the past.

On Dec. 19, the St. Paul Regional Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) distributed the hampers from its annual Community Christmas Hampers program.

During a recent Cold Lake council meeting held on Dec. 12 representatives from the Cold Lake John Howard Society stood before the council, shedding light on the concerning shift in the health and well-being of the individuals who access their services. 

Leaders of local governments worry that the changes in Provincial infrastructure funding fail to capture the burden of costs in rural areas and will actually reduce funding for some communities.
