It was a busy weekend in the Village of Vilna as the community celebrated Boomtown Days from Aug. 18 to 20, with people visiting the quaint Village from far and wide.

On Tuesday, Aug. 22, the Lac La Biche Chamber of Commerce sent a delegation on behalf of downtown business owners to address various concerns related to the Main Street Revitalization project.

‘The families will have access to everything that they need to become the parents that they always knew they could be, but just needed a little help and support from their families and their community,’ says the Métis Nation of Alberta’s vice president of Region II.

Several athletes from across the region took part in this year’s Alberta Indigenous Games in Edmonton. The provincial gathering is held every August and brings Indigenous athletes together for several days of competition.

Heavy rains on Aug. 18 turned the Kikino Rodeo Grounds into a muddy bog for the annual three-day event, which featured dozens of riders competing in various categories.

‘If it can happen there, it can happen here,’ says the president of Lakeland Society for Truth and Reconciliation.

Rates of pay for school and community organizations to participate range from $100 per km in rural areas to $150 per km in urban areas.

A steel framed shop that came with a property purchased by the Town of St. Paul at 6005-50th Ave., will be moved to the golf course maintenance yard, after no bids were received from the public to purchase the building.

The honey farm, located in Lac La Biche County, was one of several across the Lakeland region who opened its doors to the public for the provincial initiative on Aug. 19-20.

Rodeo week is coming to St. Paul, with performances scheduled to begin on Aug. 31, and wrap up on Sept. 3.
