Elk Point Town Council has delayed moving forward last Monday night with first reading of proposed legislation intended to give some teeth to the municipality’s Animal Control Bylaw instead deferring discussion to the June 9 meeting.

RCMP describe some social media comments made in response to the incident as "extremely disheartening."

The 2025 Northeast Alberta Schools' Athletic Association (NEASAA) handball zone championship tournament was held in Bonnyville at the C2 field house, where boys and girls teams from Bonnyville (Notre Dame), Mallaig, Two Hills, and St. Paul competed – with both St. Paul teams taking the win in the finals.  

The two active fires on May 2 that prompted the evacuation of some residents in Frog Lake First Nation are now under control.

The annual event, which is hosted by Lac La Biche FC, brings young soccer players together from across the Lakeland Region to compete against each other and work on their skills on the pitch.

The event took place at Lac La Biche's Alexander Hamilton Park on the evening of May 1.

LAC LA BICHE - While the overall tax bill in Lac La Biche will be going up, the mill rate is staying the same after Lac La Biche County council passed all three readings of its 2025 tax rate by law at the April 29 meeting.

As with many municipalities in the province, Town of Elk Point council members want residents to be clearly aware that a portion of their property taxes is collected on behalf of the Government of Alberta in the form of school requisition, an amount which they have no control over.

The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority says a fire near Highway 660 is being held. An update was provided Sunday evening just before 10 p.m.

Emergency crews battle wildfire north of Evergreen Estates in Moose Lake area
