The provincial government will provide an $820,000 operating grant to the 2026 host society to help cover operating costs such as staffing, transportation, food, venues and promotions.

Cold Lake RCMP are hoping to locate a missing 15-year-old who may be headed to Onion Lake.

The Cold Lake Food Bank is gearing up for a first-time event that aims to raise awareness about food insecurity and homelessness, while encouraging community members to come together and support the local food bank.  

“We are looking at ways of providing more security for patrons, but we’re struggling to keep up with this escalation of potential violence in our community," says Mayor Craig Copeland.

“The bottom line is that the shelter is the safest place for anyone who needs a warm place to stay. Not only is it warm, but there is access to food and other supports that people can take advantage of," says City of Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland.

While many daycares in the Lakeland region report keeping their doors open on Jan. 30, several daycare centres in Alberta were closed as an act of protest due to challenges posed by the Alberta child care affordability grant. 

In a display of community support, Cold Lake First Nations recently organized a food drive at Sobeys in the City of Cold Lake on Feb. 3.  

In Cold Lake, there is a community of seniors defying the winter blues by engaging in the fast-paced and social sport of pickleball.

Students at Holy Cross Elementary School in Cold Lake put their scientific knowledge to the test during the school’s science fair on Feb. 1.
