It was a long season with many bumps and spikes along the way, but the Lakeland Sharks U16 club volleyball team can look back at this season as the best in team history.

After wrapping up a wonderful three-year career with the Bonnyville Jr. A Pontiacs, graduating forward Tyler Henry has committed to attend the University of Regina this fall.

Five St. Paul air rifle shooters came back from the Maple Leaf Air Open in Leduc on May 13 to 15 with several medals to recognize their accomplishment. Jordon Sinclair won first in the men's division in the Olympic-style shooting competition.

The St. Paul Bengals are back in action with a spring training camp every week night from May 16 to June 18. The busy training schedule will give players who love the game the chance to play it every weekday, said coach Seth Henderson.

Lacrosse has made its way into the Bonnyville sports scene. The Lakeland Heat played the Vermilion Roar in an exhibition match on May 10 to gauge the interest in lacrosse within Bonnyville.

The St. Paul bantam age boys have enough members to form two teams this year. St. Paul bantam 1 has won all three games so far this season. The first was a friendly season opener between the two bantam teams.

The St. Paul Lions roared to life this past week with a testing night on Thursday, followed by offensive linemen and defensive back training over the weekend.

Four Northeast Alberta Track and Field Club (NEAT) athletes came home with medals from the Calgary Spring Challenge and Combined Events Championship at Glenmore Athletic Park on the weekend.

Seven volleyball teams from the Lac La Biche region participated in ATB Financial’s volleyball tournament at J.A. Williams high school last weekend to raise money for the Stollery Children’s hospital in Edmonton.

A rejuvenated Bonnyville Voyageurs football squad came into spring season hungry for even more success this year, but will be up against tough competition, according to head coach Brian Walsh.
